Live Music: John K Samson

The Weakerthans are one of my all-time favourite bands so on Tuesday night K and I went to the West End Cultural Centre to see front man and local hero John K Samson play.

Opening the show was the pride of Sackville, New Brunswick, Shotgun Jimmie, who is fabulous live. Charming and funny, K aptly described him as a mix between Stephen Malkmus and Chad Vangaalen (I’d throw a little Joel Plaskett in there too).

John K played a mix of solo stuff from his new album and Weakerthans songs, throwing in a cover from 90’s band Jawbreaker and a number by Propaghandi. It was a wonderful show.
