TV: Girls

Have you watched this show yet? I’ve only watched three episodes and I’m hooked. Girls centres around four young twentysomething friends living in New York. Protagonist Hannah Horvath (played by Lena Dunham who also writes and directs the show) reminds me of a younger, snarkier Liz Lemon who isn’t afraid of sex. The show follows Hannah’s misadventures after her parents cut her off and she’s forced to find a paying job and figure out her life.

What I really appreciate about the show is that the four characters represent the real spectrum of women’s bodies – Hannah is on the chubby side while another character who is lauded as beautiful, is also fairly curvy. The show, though hilarious, never feels far-fetched and it’s nice to watch something that’s both realistic and wonderful.

This show speaks to me and I’m sure countless other young women. A must-watch as far as I’m concerned.
