May Update and April Intentions

Processed with VSCOcam with c1 preset

I’ve been really absent from this blog and for that, I apologize. When I (re)started it, I committed to posting twice a week – a goal I sustained until quite recently. However, I found that I was often posting just for the sake of posting, not because I had something to say or something interesting to share. And blogging for blogging’s sake is no fun for anyone. I’m going to try to be a little more genuine in this space which likely means less quantity, but hopefully more quality.

With all that said, it’s time to check in with my May intentions.

Get back into running. I managed to run exactly once and I paid for it with a week of knee pain. Now that I’ve rested my knee for a good long while, it’s time to revisit this.

Be kind to my skin. This was surprisingly hard. I didn’t realize how habitually and mindlessly I pick and prod at my skin. It’s good to recognize this problem and I will continue to work on it.

Blog about food. Success! I blogged about a favourite meal and was really happy with the results.

June Intentions

Run (at least) once a week. When my goals are concrete, I tend to do better with them. I think I’m ready for this.

Paint the hallway. After getting some serious electrical work done on my house, the whole place needs re-painting. Kevin and I have already tackled the living room and dining room and this month I’d prefer to do something a lot less time consuming. The hallway should be a nice, easy project to complete.

Cook or bake one new thing (and blog about it?). I tend to get stuck in a rut of making the same things over and over again. It’s time for something new.

That seems like a decent amount to tackle this month.

April Update and May Intentions

These were my intentions for April:

Get thee to an eye doctor. Done and done. My eyes have changed a little bit and I could get new glasses, but I think I’ll hold off for now.

Continue my yoga practice and work on healing my knee. I did some, but not a lot of yoga. However, my knee seems to be better! I’m going to be very very gentle with it over the next month.

Be mindful. I’ve definitely done a much better job this month of being mindful of little and big things. I’ve also managed to fit in a bit of meditating which always does wonders for my mental health.

Get some new basics. Yep, completed this one as well. Picked up some new undies from the Bay and got some new bras from an amazing shop called Diva. Remember when I measured myself and was shocked to discover I was way off on my bra size? Well, turns out I was not far off. I measured myself to a 30DD and at the shop was fitted to a 30D.

May Intentions

Get back into running. I’m going to hold off on this until near the end of the month as I want to make sure my knee is 100% before I start running again. In the meantime, I’m going to continue with yoga and try to go on some bike rides.

Be kind to my skin. I have a really bad habit of picking and prodding at my skin and I always notice a huge difference when I’ve willed myself to stop.

Blog about food. I think I could be an excellent food blogger if I dedicated the time to it. The problem is, when I’m making something (or Kevin is), I want to eat it as soon as possible. Pausing to stage and take photos is difficult, but this month, I’m going to make it happen.

The weather is getting beautiful and the days are getting long and I’m feeling motivated. How about you?

March Update and April Intentions

Time to check in with my March intentions.

Continue my meditation practice. While I have not been doing a traditional seated practice, I have been doing a lot of yoga, which can count as meditation. However, I’m usually more focused on watching the video and making sure I’m doing it right, than on my body and breath.

Play the piano. I did this exactly once. But it’s better than nothing, right?

April Intentions

Get thee to an eye doctor. I’m overdue for a check-up.

Continue my yoga practice and work on healing my knee. I’m currently on day 21 of my 30 days of yoga. I’m really enjoying it and am hoping to be able to do something a little more strenuous when it ends. I also need to do the exercises my physiotherapist recommended for my knee – I can’t believe it’s still causing me grief

Be mindful. This can include formal meditation, three-minute breathing spaces, mindfully eating, yoga, and walking meditation. It’s been so helpful for my anxiety and I need to make it a regular part of my day.

Get some new basics. Perhaps TMI, but my underwear collection is looking rather sad. Also! I recently found this on the interwebs and decided to measure my bra size. I was astounded when it came back that I am a 30 DD!  I’ve been wearing a 34 B for years. I’m going to try to get to a department store ASAP and try on some bras.

Do you have any goals for the month ahead?

February Update and March Intentions

Oh boy, February was not a good month for my intentions.

February Update:

Exercise (at least) seven times. Big fat fail. I did not exercise even once in February. I injured my knee from going to hard with my running at the end of January and it’s been pretty painful all month. It still hurts quite a bit and I hope that by the end of March, I can get back on the exercise train. I miss it.

Drink more water. I started out strong with this one, but two weeks in, I pretty much gave up on it.

Journal once a week. I managed to journal three weeks this month, so let’s consider this a success.

Work on my posture. Again, was on top of this for about two weeks and then gave up. My massage therapist is going to be very disappointed in me.

March Intentions

Continue my meditation practice. I’ve been taking a mindfulness class since January and this has involved a lot of at-home meditation practice. The class ends next week and I know that it’s going to be hard to continue to meditate without the motivation of the class.

Play the piano. I recently got my piano tuned with the intention of starting to play again. It’s time to dig out my old scores and figure out if I can still read sheet music.

That seems good for now. I’ll take it easy in March. You making any resolutions as we head into spring?

December Update and January Intentions

Let’s check in with my December intentions, shall we?

Continue to try to exercise (at least) once a week. Success! Even though this is a measly amount of exercise, I feel pretty good about accomplishing this intention.

Make a wedding album. Fail. I did get all the photos I like together, but when I went to make an album with Pinhole Press, I couldn’t get my photos arranged the way I wanted them.

Get a haircut. Success. And I love  it. I got some layers put in and it gives my hair a lot more volume and bounce.

Keep the bathroom clean. Sort of? I definitely was more vigilant about keeping the soap dish and sink clean, but sort of let the ball drop on the toilet and bathtub.

January Intentions

Exercise (at least) six times. I’m upping my exercise game for January.

Don’t buy anything unnecessary. December was a spendy month. This month, I will buy only essentials.

Eat more vegetables and less carbs. December was also a month full of food and I need to detox a bit from a month of indulgence.

And that’s a wrap for 2014! See you in the new year!

November Update and December Intentions

How did I do with my intentions for November? So glad you asked.

Meditate (at least) three times a week. I started out strong on this one, but once I ran out of free sessions from Headspace, I just stopped. I should maybe try to get back into it, but it’s hard to get out of bed that much earlier to meditate especially now when the mornings are so dark and cold.

Exercise (at least) once a week. Another fail, though two out of four weeks isn’t bad, right? The big problem with this one is that now that I can’t run outside, I don’t know what else to do. I’ve done some Fitness Blender videos, but those get sort of boring. Any suggestions for at home workouts I can do that will get my heart rate up for at least 35 minutes?

Schedule recurring deposits into my savings accounts. Done and done.

Buy a belt. Yep, thank you Target.

December Intentions

Continue to try to exercise (at least) once a week. Can I do this in December? Stay tuned.

Make a wedding album. I’ve been married for a year and a half and yet, the pictures sit in Dropbox, neglected. I have four days off near the end of the month and intend to work on this then. I think I’m going to go through Pinhole Press, but am open to other suggestions…

Get a haircut. I tend to only get a haircut once a year and am overdue. I’d like to get some shorter layers put in and am going to use the pictures from this post as inspiration.

Keep the bathroom clean. Specifically the toilet, soap dish, and bathtub drain. Doesn’t take much effort and makes a huge difference.

November Intentions

My husband and I are currently in transit, somewhere between Europe and North America, making our long way home after our Morocco adventure. It was quite the trip and I can’t wait to share photos and stories. But for now, I thought I would take a page out of a favourite blog and start doing monthly intentions. So, without further ado, these are my goals for November.

Meditate (at least) three times a week. I have some anxiety issues and find mediation really helpful for slowing down my constantly racing mind. Next month, I’d like to try to do it everyday, but I’m hesitant to make a goal that lofty, so three times a week seems do-able.

Exercise (at least) once a week. Another thing that helps with my anxiety and another thing I should be doing every day. I know this isn’t much, but it’s a start. I go through phases with exercise where for a year, I’ll exercise regularly, and then for another year, I’ll slack. I feel much better physically, emotionally, and mentally when I’m getting regular exercise so this month it’s about slowly getting back into it.

Schedule recurring deposits into my savings account. Just a matter of figuring out how much I can afford to contribute every month and just doing it. Then I won’t have to think about it and before I know it, I’ll have enough money to retire! 😉

Buy a belt. This seems so easy, but it’s something I’ve been putting off forever. Writing it down will make me accountable.
